Downtime, some rushed info
December 17th, 2009 by Elmaron
The server went down for some reason and refused to restart. The exact cause is not known, but it is assumed that ntpd, the time sync daemon, is involved as it was found to be defunct when the machine finally started without finishing the INIT process properly. — Read more...
Invite command and hidden IPs
December 13th, 2009 by Elmaron
We now have working INVITE command on Eloxoph, thanks to the upcoming WeIRCd 0.7.5 (as usual, you can checkout the development source here without having to wait for the next major release). — Read more...
friendly landlord, Strato & IPv6
December 4th, 2009 by Elmaron
I asked Strato, the company running the friendly.landlord.eloxoph.com server (our only chat server at the time) about IPv6. Sadly, they don't have a detailed schedule when it is going to be available.
WeIRCd is pretty much IPv6 capable (untested and a minor function still missing to check config entered ips for being about valid that I'll write in a few minutes probably), so this is the only thing holding us off from IPv6 on the main server.
Well there's still linking you say. True, this will also bring us IPv6 capable servers into the net probably. But linking will still take a reasonable amount of time. — Read more...
WeIRCd 0.7.2 released
November 29th, 2009 by Elmaron

Also, it features a graphical administration panel for Windows which is hopefully making administration more convenient and easier. The panel will be extended in the future to list the configuration's settings as graphical settings dialog. — Read more...
Wikipedia losing editors
November 27th, 2009 by Elmaron
Apparently, Wikipedia is losing editors on a great scale. I don't know the major cause for this, but I know for sure that a lot of articles got deleted just because some people think they are not notable — Read more...
The LISTMODE feature
November 24th, 2009 by Elmaron
The IRC protocol evolves slowly as everyone knows - some people invent random new features and with some luck others adopt it, while the majority often won't care. Still, new features and inventions, when properly introduced through the 005 and not breaking old clients, are a good thing and important to address some of the flaws even if not the whole range of software available implements it and benefits from it, as it still leaves the possibility that they do.
LISTMODE is an interesting, little improvement invented by Shane "Dataforce" McCormack that addresses a problem introduced by different channel list types apart from the traditional ban list that use changing and sometimes overlapping numerics when responding to a client's request of the lists' contents — Read more...
IRC Wiki grows
November 22nd, 2009 by Elmaron
Since Wikipedia likes to delete IRC-related articles, I setup an own small wiki just for Internet Relay chat topics and expanded it. The IRC Wiki has been growing more or less steadily and now has articles on a couple of clients already, amongst them Konversation, XChat, mIRC and irssi. — Read more...
